To start a new year with a disaster we all witness now in Haiti was indeed not planned nor expected by anyone in the world. The heartbreaking pictures of children either dead or heavily wounded is touching our feelings so much, that it can be difficult to concentrate about other issues in our daily life and just watching the damages to the buildings as well as the Haitian population.
Rescue teams, food supplies and much more are flown into the Haitian Island amd may be one of the biggest help situations ever seen in the world, It is indeed a co-operation between many countries, organizations and individuals, which makes it possible to assist and help in such a large scale and worthwhile to reflect upon such a disaster now having people from many different cultures involved towards a common goal – to rescue people and restore a whole country again into a hopefully modern country.
A parallel could be made to many other issues in the world in different kinds of disputes amongst countries and cultures. We are trying to achieve the best conditions on earth to anyone born on this globe, but conflicts are still a main topic in our worldwide efforts for a decent life for the entire human race.
Instead of conflicts that ends up in fights and wars it could be a good idea always to work on a precluding procedure instead of a healing treatment afterwards – just like we are trying to prevent any kind of deceases caused by either epidemic or self-sustained reasons. We could start with ourselves in all egos and make a test how to treat and handle our own aggressive thoughts about persons we might either hate or feel disgusted about, and it could be the first tiny step just to understand how and why it is so difficult to unite the world in all aspects of peace, lifestyles and cultures.
The situation in Haiti cased a lot of charity arrangements all over the world – unfortunately also money collections which have been misused to own beneficial and personal income which is one of the most disgusting ways of hard corned cool actions in all aspect of manners on behalf of such a disaster where thousands are dying and millions wounded and homeless.
To work for unity in cultures, business and human relationships needs real actions live in each corner of the world and not only in written slogans and letters like I am doing it here. This is one of the reasons why we should admire and support those people who works in the fields of the real world and many times included a risk of own life either by accidents or killings.
Those who went along in the peaceful demonstration during the climate conference in Copenhagen were really active and heroes insofar their appearance made quite some thoughts to the decision makers. Any kind of live contacts will cause reflections to our common goals for a peaceful world and the daily dose will change our ego attitudes towards better human beings in a hopefully more united world of many cultures.
I can only urge anyone to contribute with whatever possible actions now to help the people on Haiti and try to imagine how to help your neighbor in need if it should be needed in the future.
All the best from
Kurt Lykke Lindved
