INTERNET – CULTURE OR PASSIVE PLAYGROUND

INTERNET – CULTURE OR PASSIVE PLAYGROUND

I had a dream when I was a boy – a fulfilling of harmony and balance with the nature – freedom to decide my own way of lifestyle and life under my own responsibility. I was surprised when I found that this was a dream only and not the real world. Somebody already made the rules in that community where I was born, and if I didn`t fit to those conditions I would be considered as a person in line with other non-normal individuals who need either help or treatments for bad behavior.

Well, think about it – When are we “normal” or not. Any kind of community must have a certain set of laws in order to balance our society into the circumstances we have been given to live and act within those frames that enables us to live in either bigger groups or alone as a choice made by ourselves.

The nature, however, do not ask anyone about eventual new attempts to change it`s own position and in cases like we have seen now and in the past we most realize, that mankind never obtained any control over the powerful nature on earth. Our developments in skills and progress improved a lot in technologies and the human race is now able to share and watch whatever happens on the globe within seconds via our high expertise in technologies such as the media communications like television, internet, mobiles and more to come.

A revolution during the past 100 years and a new way of lifestyle which made my dreams vanish in a flow of “passive” communication via screen words or pictures – unfortunately a necessity to many now dependent on those tools as a part and habit of either life earnings or just as a window to the world.

I am not against those fantastic tools of communication possibilities – on the contrary I use it a lot myself but may be as another necessity to act and live in a modern world. I am wondering, however, whether the non-controllable internet access will escalate violence and other dark sides of our valuable culture on earth. The cultures around the world was at least framed within the boxes I dreamed about being without as a boy, but it could very well be that the cultures to meet cultures will be effected via the internet without any further live actions, but just a screen play which is forgotten whenever we happen to meet in reality.

Pictures and writings via the internet is “free of duty” but could of course indicate where we stand on an average point in our own cultural life. Following the many portal offers today it seems to me, that we have many “broken links” throughout the world without any kind of “internet culture” – depending of course what culture is about in our modern life today.

We just witness the disaster in Haiti via our screens and at a distance that is quite harmless compared with the people involved directly eventually with a risk of own life or sustainable inputs of the way life can be in it`s most extreme aspects. Haiti is however much more underneath this disaster – A state of poorness, criminal actions and to a certain extend isolated insofar nobody really paid any attention to this island before.

And I wonder why, but it could be that millions of people around the world are occupied with own interests in communities and the eyes and ears to the rest of the world goes via the television medias looking for disasters only or portals that concentrates their efforts to please members with new campaigns or applications which might help forgetting a tough life out there where people meets face to face.

The human balance is a difficult task thence more difficult to change habits circumstances permitted – I will give my boy dreams a chance more whether normal or not before it is too late.!
