Life’s three circles can be perceived in different ways. The older we get the more time we have to turn our eyes backwards as the captain is looking aft and forward to find the next ship’s bearing towards the shore.
My own “sailing” has crossed many stations on my way and so many that I sometimes must grasp the old “Chart” … Please read diary …. to assist my memory using the “who, what and where” ….. Well, I’ve never tried to live “backwards” .. but in the present and the possible future targets that are within their reach. 25 years of upbringing and learning, 25 years in both the King’s garments as a soldier and a work in the Danish company The East Asiatic Co.. with the world as a place of work 60 hours per week. The last 17 years have been characterized by my heart tasks and hobbies that suddenly became a reality in the circles of professional artists, musicians, singers, dancers, writers and especially my aimer for foreign cultures, that through my long career and residences in 12 different countries was a major part of my attitudes to “humanity” or lack of the same.
We can to some extent prepare ourselves for a life as a pensioner, and this I have done together with my partner Catharina and based on some of our common interests and previous work no matter what we have done to date.
However, there are some points that are very important. Which country in which climate and the population will be the best choice in YOUR situation and not what others have done or will do. It can be a difficult choice in these times where the economy, politics and ethnic conflicts seems to be an unpredictable long highway without an end.
The word “compromise” is still used and as many other times in all aspects of life, it may be necessary to use this compromise being the next best option. We have now found our compromise with the new resident in the “Pyrenees Orientales”, France – close to the Spanish border, close to the big city of Perpignan, the beach and a mixture of several ethnic groups in the Vallespir valley, with a total of about 30,000 inhabitants scattered along the river Tech and we will now be living in Arles-sur-Tech.
We have as pensioners the freedom to work or sit in front of a TV screen every day from morning to night. None of us have the “ability” to stare at a screen all day long, so we had to find the opportunities for activities in this particular area where nature, culture, tourism, galleries, exhibitions, music and dance has been the cornerstone of the local people through centuries.
We have many experiences in art, exhibitions, music, lectures, galleries, entertainment and concerts and all this is actually one big melted pot with lots of small and major local events that are either arranged as a potluck or by artists who have the sense of having been a self-owning art store for many years. The cafes are having exhibition stalls and organizes many events for both known and unknown artists, wine tasting and sales of almost any kind of hand made art and design.
The third domain is thus initiated after two years of research along the Mediterranean coastline – much has been trashed with a hard hand – The clusters around the Mediterranean azure blue sea also contains many self-styled sharks, who do not even own the shadow of what is called ethics or human common conditions in life’s decent ways to work around the principle, that co-operation means; and together we share regardless of income or expenditure
Welcome to Arles-sur-Tech. We can offer you a good solid service and assist you with information that can be valuable whatever your purpose might be in this wonderful, life-affirmative and polite société of Spanish and French origin in the area of “Pyrenees Orientales”.
